An overview of the synaptic vesicle lipid composition

چکیده
Chemical neurotransmission is the major mechanism of neuronal communication. Neurotransmitters are released from secretory organelles, synaptic vesicles (SVs) via exocytosis into cleft. Fusion SVs with presynaptic plasma membrane balanced by endocytosis, thus maintaining at steady-state levels. The protein machineries responsible for exo- and endocytosis have been extensively investigated. In contrast, less known about role lipids in transmission how lipid composition affected dynamic exo-endocytotic cycling. Here we summarize current knowledge composition, organization, function SV lipids. We also cover biogenesis maintenance during vesicle cycle.

v-SNARE Composition Distinguishes Synaptic Vesicle Pools
Synaptic vesicles belong to two distinct pools, a recycling pool responsible for the evoked release of neurotransmitter and a resting pool unresponsive to stimulation. The uniform appearance of synaptic vesicles has suggested that differences in location or cytoskeletal association account for these differences in function. We now find that the v-SNARE tetanus toxin-insensitive vesicle-associat...
متن کاملSynaptic Vesicle Pools: An Update
During the last few decades synaptic vesicles have been assigned to a variety of functional and morphological classes or "pools". We have argued in the past (Rizzoli and Betz, 2005) that synaptic activity in several preparations is accounted for by the function of three vesicle pools: the readily releasable pool (docked at active zones and ready to go upon stimulation), the recycling pool (scat...
متن کاملAsymmetry of lipid organization in cholinergic synaptic vesicle membranes.
The lipid composition of purified Torpedo cholinergic synaptic vesicles was determined and their distribution between the inner and outer leaflets of the vesicular membrane was investigated. The vesicles contain cholesterol and phospholipids at a molar ratio of 0.63. The vesicular phospholipids are (mol% of total phospholipids): phosphatidylcholine (40.9); phosphatidylethanolamine (24.6); plasm...
متن کاملThe synaptic vesicle cycle.
Neurotransmitter release is mediated by exocytosis of synaptic vesicles at the presynaptic active zone of nerve terminals. To support rapid and repeated rounds of release, synaptic vesicles undergo a trafficking cycle. The focal point of the vesicle cycle is Ca2+-triggered exocytosis that is followed by different routes of endocytosis and recycling. Recycling then leads to the docking and primi...
متن کاملLipid Peroxidation: an Overview
Lipid peroxidation (LPO) in cellular membranes is associated with changes in physicochemical properties and impairment of protein functions located in membrane environment. Recent studies shows involvement of LPO in biological signaling and various diseases. Lipids are oxidized by three distinct mechanisms: enzymatic oxidation; non-enzymatic, free radical-mediated oxidation and non-enzymatic, n...
